本展では、弊廊での初個展となるニューヨーク・ブルックリンを拠点に活動する作家Aislinn Janek（アイスリン・ヤネック）によるシリーズ「Continuity of Chronos」を紹介します。
本シリーズは、「時間の流れ」をテーマに、絵画の表面にその痕跡をとどめる試みです。アクリルやワックス、ろうけつ染めといった異なる素材を幾層にも重ねることで、画面には隠された部分と現れる部分が生まれ、時間が一様ではなく、重なり合いながら進んでいく様子が示されます。
また、キャンバスに縫い込まれた糸は、制作のプロセスそのものを刻む行為であり、一針ごとに時間が積み重なっていくことを可視化しています。こうした反復的な手作業は、作品に静かなリズムと持続感を与えています。
本作において時間は、単に過ぎ去るものとしてではなく、蓄積し、痕跡を残すものとして捉えられています。画面に広がる余白や層のあいだに生まれる「間（ま）」は、時間を測るのではなく、感じるための空間として機能します。
以前、日本で行った展示が作品における構造に焦点を当てていたのに対し、本展では、私たちの意識とは関係なく流れ続ける時間そのものに目を向けます。鑑賞者は作品の前で立ち止まり、普段は意識することのない時間の感覚を、静かに体験することになるでしょう。

作家略歴
1993年、オハイオ州生まれ。ニューヨーク・ブルックリン在住。
ヤングスタウン州立大学にてコミュニケーション学の学士号を取得後、美術および心理学を専攻。
絵具のレイヤーと手縫いの刺繍を組み合わせ、記憶や存在の儚さを主題に制作。フランス、チェコ、日本におけるレジデンス滞在を通じて、言語や記憶の断片性への関心を深化させている。
This exhibition marks the first solo presentation at the gallery by Brooklyn-based artist Aislinn Janek, featuring her series Continuity of Chronos.
Centered on the theme of the “flow of time,” this series attempts to preserve traces of temporality upon the surface of painting. Through the layering of diverse materials such as acrylic, wax, and batik dyeing techniques, the works generate areas that are concealed and revealed, suggesting that time does not proceed uniformly, but rather advances through overlapping accumulations.
The threads sewn into the canvas further inscribe the act of making itself, visualizing the accumulation of time stitch by stitch. These repetitive hand processes lend the works a quiet rhythm and enduring sense of continuity.
In these works, time is not treated merely as something that passes, but as something that accumulates and leaves behind traces. The spaces and intervals emerging between layers function not as measurements of time, but as spaces through which time may be felt.
Whereas the artist’s previous exhibition in Japan focused on the structural aspects of the work, this exhibition turns its attention toward time itself — an entity that continues to flow regardless of human awareness. Standing before the works, viewers are invited into a quiet encounter with a sense of time that often escapes conscious perception.
In addition, a separate solo exhibition under a different conceptual framework, Mechanisms of the Hierophant, will be presented at Kawata Gallery from Saturday, June 13. We warmly encourage viewers to visit both exhibitions.
Biography
Born in Ohio in 1993, Aislinn Janek currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies from Youngstown State University, she pursued studies in fine art and psychology.
Combining layered paint surfaces with hand-sewn embroidery, her practice explores themes of memory and the fragility of existence. Through residency programs in France, the Czech Republic, and Japan, she has deepened her engagement with the fragmentary nature of language and memory.
